Glossop YET - Round up of activities by the Glossop Youth Engagement Team
On Tuesday 24th March the team attended New Mills Secondary School, Church Lane, New Mills during the morning to complete an input on Misogyny with 2 groups of 20 Year 10 students.
Later the same day the team attended St Mary's Catholic Voluntary Academy, Longlands Road, New Mills, to complete an input on ‘Shattered’ - knife crime awareness and then followed by an input on 'Summer Safety' with Yr5 and Yr6 students (Key stage 2), directly after their lunch break. Then In the early evening of Tuesday 24th march the team assisted with on line training with 1 new volunteer, for the Hadfield Community Speed Watch team, at Glossop Police station.
During the afternoon of Wednesday, 25th March, the team had been invited to attend Padfield Community Primary School, Rhodes St, Padfield to complete an input on ASB (anti-social behaviour) with their year 5 and 6 students (Key stage 2). PCSO Buller was also invited to judge the school easter egg competition - with some hard choices due the 'eggecellent' entries - it wasn't easy, I must admit. but ‘Well done to all’. Later in the early evening a town centre foot patrol was completed.
On Thursday 26th March - The team attended Glossopdale School & Sixth form, Newshaw Lane, Hadfield to complete a lunch time drop in session - on the last day before their breakup for Easter Holidays/Half Term Break begins. It was also an opportunity to complete some of our Derbyshire Community Voice Youth surveys with a few of the students. ![]() Followed by foot patrol of Glossop Town Centre in the late afternoon and mid evening engaging with the public, local businesses and young people in the area. ![]() Our Youth surveys, which are aimed at secondary age young people, allow the team to learn if they feel safe or not, where this could be in our area and any specific times that they feel unsafe there, including why. The survey also includes asking if they could make decisions for the young people in the Glossopdale and New Mills areas - what would they put in place? - what's missing, what's needed?. And lastly what method of communication is the best way (they think) for information to be shared with young people by the Police eg Whats app - instagram - Snap Chat etc.
The team would like to thank the headteacher from each school, including teachers and staff for accomodating our visits this week - but just as importantly thank you to the young people we were engaged with this week.
